@CoachGodwin Ep 30: The Kyrie Irving Drill @KyrieIrving

August 27, 20120 Comments

Kyrie Irving is the epitome of a point guard and overall basketball player (Disclaimer I am from New Jersey).  In a day in age where basketball is ruled by athleticism it is refreshing to see someone break into the star ranks with basketball I.Q.  Kyrie understands the game of basketball and his knowledge of the game allowed him to become Rookie of the Year.  This drill was inspired by Kyrie Irving as he showed the world (at USA camp) what a lot of us already knew.  The game is 80% Mental and 20% Physical.

What makes these two groups of players apart of the basketball elite? I have the answer to all of these questions in this motivational video titled “The Basketball Secret.”  Make sure you watch this before every game and workout.  #TheBballSecret

@CoachGodwin Ep: 25 Dribble, Catch, Screen Shooting Drill

July 13, 20120 Comments

Whenever you go to the gym to do skill work you have to know the difference between quality and quantity.  Quantity is you just putting in a ton of hours without purpose.  Quality is when you have a plan and understand how to become more efficient in your work outs.  In this drill we are focusing on 3 ways you can shoot the basketball.  Off the dribble, catch, and screen.  I love multi-skill drills like this, that prepare you to shoot in any situation.

‘Ambition is the path to success, persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”

If you want to make that Hall of Fame speech one day, you have to learn how convert obstacles into opportunities.  Every success story comes with a price tag that includes hard work and persevering through disappointment.  When I look back on my career I am thankful that basketball taught me that at the end of pain is victory.
